Our large walking horse measures approximately 7.5 ft (230 cm) high, 11.5 ft (350 cm) long, and 2.3 ft (70 cm) wide, with a finished weight of about 770 lb (350 kg).

By comparison, one of our large jumping horses reaches approximately 11.5 ft (3.5 m) high and weighs around 1,540 lb (700 kg).

Both are bronze horses, but the jumping horse requires considerably more material and a more demanding internal support system.

Its dynamic pose also increases the work involved in casting, welding, balancing, and installation.

This is one reason we always evaluate the complete sculpture before giving a final price.

Why Can Animals of the Same Size Have Different Prices?

A good example can already be seen in our current bronze horse collection.

A 6 ft bronze horse with base is currently listed around $4,899–$6,899, while a 7 ft race horse is around $4,899–$8,899. So even within a very similar height range, the design and production requirements can change the budget significantly.

1. Size and Body Volume

Size is normally the first thing we check, but for bronze animals we look at:

height + length + width + overall body volume

A deer may be tall but have a relatively narrow body.

A bull of the same height may have a much wider chest, heavier neck and larger overall volume.

This can affect:

• the amount of bronze;
• mold size;
• number of casting sections;
• welding work;
• internal support;
• handling and packaging.

For a deer or elk, the slender legs and antlers require different treatment.

A standing horse with four legs on the ground is usually easier to support than a rearing or jumping horse.

3. Anatomy, Fur, Muscles and Expression

For realistic animals, fine detail has a direct effect on the amount of artist time required.

Our animal sculpture team checks details such as:

• muscle transitions;
• facial expression;
• fur texture;
• mane and tail;
• hooves and paws;

A smooth-coated horse and a heavily textured bear require very different sculpting and finishing work.
